Istanbul nominated capital city of the event “CdADAY 2013”, organised on 25th of February all over the world
Istanbul on 25th of February will be the capital city for the main events of Commedia dell’Arte Day 2013, promoted every year from 2010 in the seven continents by SAT, association recognized by UNESCO as an NGO active in the field of Intangible Heritage. This association, established since 1993 with the aim to promote this ancient tradition of Italian theatre, gather the most important Italian and foreign Commedia dell’Arte practitioners together; as shown by every year’s rich programme of shows, workshops, conferences presented at the “CdADAY”, this tradition is alive and practised all over the world.
On the occasion of each edition, an international culture personality dedicates a wish to the Day, as Dario Fo did on its first edition: this time, this message is written by the Turkish critic of Performing arts Üstün Akmen.
The agenda of the main events in Istanbul is organised by Teatro ricerche, association recognised by the Italian Ministry of Culture and member of SAT, that for about the last 3 years collaborates with some Italian and Turkish institutions in the field of education and theatre promotion for the valorisation of the cultural exchanges between nations.
The Commedia dell’Arte Day 2013 has the patronage of Turkish UNESCO and Italian International Theatre Institute, and has among its main partners the Italian Institute of Culture in Istanbul, the Culture and Information Office of the Embassy of Turkey in Rome, the University of Istanbul – Dramaturgy Dept., the University of Turin – Foreign Languages and Literatures and Modern Cultures Dept., the “IMI” Italian Lyceum in Istanbul, the Turkish “Evrim” Primary School– Italian Language Dept., the “Galileo Galilei” Italian Lyceum in Istanbul and, among Istanbul theatres, the Municipal Theatre, Tyiatro Barbone and Kumbaraci50.
Numerous are the participations in Istanbul from Italy, Portugal, England and Turkey that together will give their artistic contribution to the programme with shows, brief performances, show-conferences and seminars with the students from Istanbul schools and universities.
Especially important will be the Conference on the theme “Between East and West: traditional theatre starting from Commedia dell’Arte”, with a presentation and an introduction about UNESCO Intangible Heritage by Luciano Brogi, President of SAT, and the Commedia dell’Arte Masks’ exhibition hand-made by some of the most important European masks makers. Both events are organised in collaboration with the Italian Institute of Culture in Istanbul in its splendid Italy House Theatre.
The Conference will be coordinated by Prof. Roberto Tessari from the University of Turin, one of the greatest and eminent experts of Commedia dell’Arte in Europe, and by Mario Gallo, President of Teatro ricerche. Special guest Prof. Kerem Karaboğa from the University of Istanbul, one of the most important experts in Europe in the fields of dramaturgy research, mask and acting techniques.
Other projects before-the-event developed by Teatro ricerche will be presented on 17th of February on the occasion of the Italian Language Day at the Italian Institute of Culture in Istanbul. This involves projects for the new generations about the education and promotion of the Commedia dell’Arte, activated in the schools of Istanbul that teach Italian language to Turkish students or bilingual Italians: Evrim primary school, IMI Italian Lyceum and Middle school and Galileo Galilei Italian Lyceum.
Some of these ongoing projects and other workshops about Commedia are developed in collaboration with Tiyatro Barbone, together with two exclusive co-productions: “Servants and Masters”, with Turkish professional actors, and the monologue “Arlecchino” interpreted by the Turkish actor Barış Kıralioğlu.
